Our Sustainable Journey: A Family's Efforts to Go Green at Home

As concern for the environment grows, many families are making conscious efforts to reduce their ecological footprint and live more sustainably. Here at Cantell family house, we've embarked on our own journey towards a greener lifestyle by getting everyone involved. Let's take a look at some of the steps we've taken to do our part.

Composting for a Greener Garden

One of the first steps we took towards sustainability was setting up a composting system in our backyard. We now compost fruit and vegetable scraps, coffee grounds, and yard waste, turning them into soil for our garden. Not only does composting reduce waste sent to landfills, but it also helps us grow healthier, more vibrant plants. This is one of the kids daily chores to bring comppost bucket to bin and clean it out when done.

Ridwell Recycling for Plastic Film and More

To tackle the issue of hard-to-recycle items like plastic film and multi-layer plastics, we joined Ridwell, a recycling service that collects these materials right from our doorstep. By diverting these items from landfills, we're contributing to the circular economy and reducing plastic pollution in our environment. We do our best to limit purchasing these items but it is difficult so this is one step we can take.

Reusable Shopping Bags for Sustainable Grocery Trips

Instead of relying on single-use plastic bags at the grocery store, we've switched to using our own reusable shopping bags. The key for us is to keep them in the front seat of the car so we remember to bring them in.

Daily Trash Pick-Up and Litter Cleanup

During our daily walks around the neighborhood, we make it a habit to pick up any litter we come across. Not only does this keep our streets clean and beautiful, but it also prevents trash from ending up in our water and harming wildlife.

Embracing Second-Hand Finds

Before making a new purchase, we try to consider whether we can find a pre-owned option first. Whether it's furniture, clothing, or electronics, buying second-hand reduces demand for new resources and extends the lifespan of existing items. Plus, it often leads to unique and interesting finds!

Conclusion: Small Changes, Big Impact

While our journey towards sustainability is ongoing, we're proud of the little steps we've taken to reduce our environmental impact. We hope our efforts inspire others to join us on this path towards a greener future. Together, we can create positive change for our planet and future generations.
